Founder

  • Gaurav Chawla

    Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer

    Gaurav Chawla is Lumirithmic’s Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer. He has 20 years experience as a tech/product specialist and deep tech entrepreneur. His expertise lies in product build and commercialization of B2B Enterprise and deep tech solutions. He is also serving as Entrepreneur in Residence (EIR) at Imperial College London, where he advises the college on their deep tech endeavors.

    Gaurav has a deep technical background in engineering, fintech, data science, and computer science, and has held leading technical/product roles at GE Capital, RBS, Morgan Stanley, and IHS Markit (now S&P). He is also a sought after speaker, having appeared at multiple conferences to provide expert training sessions for hundreds of attendees. He has co-authored several publications and is also co-inventor of multiple patents.

    Gaurav is a graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT, Delhi), and also holds an MS (Engineering), MS (Mathematical Finance) and MBA (Finance, Accounting) from Georgia Tech, as well as an LLB (equivalent of Juris Doctor) in Intellectual Property Law from the University of London. He is also a CFA and FRM charter holder.

  • Jayanth Kannan

    VP of Software Engineering

    Jayanth (Jay) Kannan is VP of Software Engineering and leads Lumirthmic’s software engineering team. Jayanth’s expertise is in building market solutions for computer graphics, AR, VR, machine learning, and AI. Prior to joining Lumirithmic, Jayanth founded his own game development company before moving on to work in the software industry – most notably working on several popular games ranging from first person shooters to vehicle simulations using their own proprietary game engine.

    After his stint with game development, he went on to work in the software industry by getting involved in the rapidly growing mobile applications space. He has worked with various companies to build apps for verticals ranging from banking, travel, government, line of business to mental health. Together, Jayanth has more than 16 years of experience bringing software and bespoke applications to market, as well as providing mentorship to many startups.

    Jayanth holds an MSc in AI (Knowledge Systems) from the University of Sussex.

  • Dr Claudio Guarnera

    Senior Consultant

    Claudio Guarnera is Senior Consultant at Lumirithmic. His expertise is in computer graphics, computer vision, color appearance, and applied perception, with experience both in academia and industry.

    Claudio is also a Lecturer at the University of York, a Senior Researcher at NTNU in Norway and a Guest Researcher at Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen in Germany. Prior to joining Lumirithmic, Claudio was a Senior Research Consultant, working on fabric appearance acquisition in collaboration with KiSP Inc, a Toronto-based software and design services company.

    Claudio Guarnera began his research career in computer graphics as a visiting researcher in the Graphics Lab of the USC Institute for Creative Technologies, followed by postdoctoral research experience at the University of Milan-Bicocca in Italy and at Loughborough University in UK, working on color and material appearance.

  • Ekin Ozturk

    Research Engineer

    Ekin is a research engineer at Lumirithmic and is also pursuing a PhD at Imperial College London. They have a BSc in Physics and Astrophysics from University of Toronto and a MSc in Physics from Imperial College. They have also completed a prestigious Young Graduate Traineeship at the European Space Agency at ESTEC in the Netherlands, where they developed AI/ML approaches for state-based optimal control feedback of dynamical systems.

    Currently, under the supervision of Dr. Abhijeet Ghosh, their research projects are at the intersection of differentiable realistic rendering, machine learning and physics. At Lumirithmic, they are working on implementing the algorithms and captures systems in conjunction with the software and research engineering teams.

  • Dhruv Singh

    Dhruv Singh

    Software Engineer

    Dhruv Singh is a software engineer at Lumirithmic and a graduate of the University of Hull with a BSc in Computer Science. He began his journey at Lumirithmic as an intern helping with the rendering process. After graduating from university, he took on a larger role in a Metahumans project. Shortly after, he transitioned to a full-time software engineering position, where he focused on automating critical pipeline processes, and taking over some of the capture modules, and driving innovation in 3D capture and rendering technologies.

  • Arvin Lin

    Arvin Lin

    Research Engineer

    Arvin is a research engineer at Lumirithmic and is currently pursuing a PhD at Imperial College London. He has a BSc in Electrical Engineering from National Taiwan University and a MSc in Visual Computing and Robotics at Imperial College London. His research focuses on novel active/passive illumination captures for appearance acquisition of various objects. His research is tightly correlated to the reflectance capture system and technologies employed at Lumirithmic.

  • Professor Michael Bronstein

    Scientific Advisor

    Michael Bronstein is DeepMind Professor of AI at the University of Oxford and Head of Graph Learning Research at Twitter. He was previously a professor at Imperial College London and held visiting appointments at Stanford, MIT, and Harvard, and has also been affiliated with three Institutes for Advanced Study (at TUM as a Rudolf Diesel Fellow (2017-2019), at Harvard as a Radcliffe fellow (2017-2018), and at Princeton as a short-time scholar (2020)). Michael received his PhD from the Technion in 2007.

    He is a serial entrepreneur and founder of multiple startup companies, including Novafora, Invision (acquired by Intel in 2012), Videocites, and Fabula AI (acquired by Twitter in 2019). Michael advises Lumirithmic on product strategy.

  • Steven Mail

    Strategic Advisor

    Born in Scotland, Steven enjoyed a 20-year career as a bond trader and hedge fund manager in London and Paris. After 16 years with Société Generale and BNP Paribas, Steven co-founded a $225 million global macro hedge fund.

    Steven then founded and managed his own global macro hedge fund, which raised $500 million and became one of Europe’s largest global macro hedge funds. Both funds were listed on the Irish Stock Exchange.

    Now based in Florida, Steven manages Mail Venture Partners which advises and invests in start-ups. Steven holds various board positions in global companies covering diverse areas: digital media, cyber security, sports, satellites, blockchain, advertising, healthcare and social media. Steven maintains a broad network of contacts globally.
    Steven advises Lumirithmic on commercial strategy.
